UX CASE STUDY

Design Brief: Maximise the usage of space so MARS Youth Centre can accommodate more youths.

About The Project

As a group of 5, we decided to combine all of our ideas and showcase our "Prototype" on TinkerCAD. This way it is easier for our client to visualize our ideas on how they should organize MARS youth centre. In other words, we gave a walkthrough to the client of our room layout virtually on MS Teams during the actual presentation.

The Problem

We realized that, the initial space in Mars Youth Centre could be improved in terms of organization, comfortability and cleanliness. Therefore, we suggested to change certain furnitures into furnitures that are able to store items to minimize clutter and suggested activity areas that could benefit in youths, utilize the spaces more better.

The Solution

We ended up with 4 ideas for the improvements of the space in MARS Youth Centre. Firstly, we thought of creating a movie area for youth, with several bean bags and visualizer. This is so that they could fully utilize the space. The other 3 ideas are for organization which are shelfs built in walls, seats stored under tables with tables having cup holders. Lastly, a cabinet to be placed under the sink.

USER RESEARCH

1. Create a list of interview and online survey questions
2. Conduct remote user interviews and online surveys
3. Document your team’s research findings
4. Collate the interview and online survey responses

OUR LIST OF INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
  1. How often do youths spend time at the MARS Youth Centre?

  2. What activities do youths engage in?

  3. How much space do these activities need?

  4. Which space in the room is not fully utilised?

  5. When did this problem start to occur?

  6. The room at MARS Youth Centre is not the biggest, storage wise, how have you managed?

  7. Are you open to the idea of using the unutilised place to conduct activities?

  8. If you were a youth now what would you expect from the mars centre

INSIGHTS FROM INTERVIEW WITH

Q: How do youths sign up or register for MARS Youth Centre? Can anyone considered a youth just walk in?

A: They are allowed to go in whenever they want, Sign up as a member to use the facility.

Q: How often do youths spend time at the MARS Youth Centre?

A:It depends, I believe is up to individual, i could not really control how long they spend there. Regulars 2-3 hours

A: Pre covid - Outdoor activities. (Basketball, Badminton)

Post Covid -Tiktok, Studying. Playing board or console games.

Q: Which space in the room is not fully utilised?

A: No specific place mentioned. Better to utilise in its own way and redesign, shift some things.

Q: When did this problem start to occur?

A:There was not a specific time but we can better utilise in what we currently have.

Q: The room at MARS Youth Centre is not the biggest, storage wise, how have you managed?

A: It depends, we move the furniture a few times and made quite a few arrangement. Shelves were not there, we got the
whole space to ourselves. With the current outlay, we have also conducted an escape room.
